Single Malt

The Jack•Son Buck

The Jack•Son•Tucky's single malt whisky. The mash-bill is comprised solely of two-row malted barley sourced from the UK, the same barley found in many of the finest single malt scotches.

Offered from a single barrel at cask strength, The Jack•Son Buck will be added as the Jack•Son•Tucky's bourbon barrels are emptied and then refilled with this exquisite spirit.

There it will rest for at least 7 years in the ex-bourbon casks and will serve as the distillery's third super-premium brand.

Our Story

The Beginnings

The Jack•Son•Tucky grew from a desire to finish a journey begun 50 years ago in an old Florida barn on the family farm in Lake City, Florida.

Our owner and craft distiller, Sean Espenship, was taught the art of whisky making 20 years ago by his father and uncle.

In 2008, Mr. Espenship began traveling the world, toured distilleries, met with master distillers, endeavors in which to build upon the foundation he learned many years ago. With the knowledge distilled, The Jack•Son•Tucky was born.

The Name

The name Jack•Son•Tucky is a play on words, a marriage of the location of the distillery and the birthplace of bourbon: Jacksonville + Kentucky.

The name also has a more personal meaning for Mr. Espenship: the name of his father "Jack" combined with the continuation of the family's moonshine legacy though legally by his "Son" meanwhile paying homage to the region famous for its bourbons—Ken"Tucky."

The Location

Set steps from the Atlantic Ocean in northeast Florida, this coastal distillery benefits from the salty sea-breeze, the hot humid summers and moderate winters.

This allows for continuous aging of its spirits while imparting terroir-like flavors and aromas.

Yet it is the barrel that contributes the single most important factor to the essence of our 'new make' spirits distilled from water, yeast, corn, wheat, barley, and rye.

The Goods

All of our whiskies take 100% of their color from the wood in which they are matured. With over 50% of the final character and flavor determined by the barrel, the oak casks are sourced from the very cooperage that provides 85% of the barrels to the bourbon industry.

When emptied many of these same barrels are then shipped overseas giving birth to many exceptional scotches. The barrel is the singular vital component in the whisky making process. It is this reason The Jack•Son•Tucky retains its bourbon barrels after emptying, to transform its 'new make' Jack•Son Buck spirit into a truly special single malt.

The Mission

Our foundation springs from an obsession with quality built upon Six Columns:

  • Hone thy Craft
  • Ensure Care of operations
  • Embrace Camaraderie
  • Respect the Community
  • Cultivate a whisky Compulsion
  • Character does count

These Six "C's" serve as the bedrock of conviction to The Jack•Son•Tucky's processes in the development of its unique whiskies.

The Distillery

Craft Distillery

Since 2014, The Jack•Son•Tucky has been committed to producing premium bourbons and a single malt whisky. This craft distillery is dedicated to the old tradition of batch distillation and creating whiskies from two small copper pot stills crafted by Rocky Point Coppery Stills in Boaz, Kentucky.

The short squat nature of the stills maximize the contact of the spirit with the copper helping to concentrate the flavor from the grains. As the liquid heats the alcohol boils and vaporizes. The vapor then travels over the neck where it cools and is condensed back into a liquid.

Our Process

With the more common larger and taller stills, or even the ubiquitous column stills found at most bourbon distilleries, the alcohol vapor travels a long way. This results in heavier vapors falling back into the boil and only the lighter vapors finding their way into the condenser.

In contrast, the alcohol vapors produced in our small stills travel a very short path enabling us to collect a dense, rich, flavorful spirit. This, and our double distillation process, is not conducive to making other spirits. No vodkas, no rums, no gins—just fine whiskies.

Finest Whiskies

Our uniquely heavy and full-bodied spirits ensure that we can mature our whiskies for a long time—meaning the spirits have a longer time to penetrate and absorb all the intricate flavors found in our fresh American oak barrels

So we are proud to offer only single barrel cask strength expressions for which makes each bottling unique. Rest assured, only the finest whiskies will ever fill a bottle created by The Jack•Son•Tucky.
